NANTONG COSCO KHI SHIP ENGINEERING CO., LTD. (hereinafter referred to as “NACKS”) is the first large-scale Sino-foreign joint venture shipbuilding enterprise in China established by COSCO Shipping Group (hereinafter referred to as “COSCO Shipping”) and Kawasaki Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “KHI”). The company has a registered capital of 1.46 billion Yuan and a total investment of over 6 billion Yuan, for which COSCO Shipping and KHI respectively hold 50% of shares of NACKS. The company adheres to the original intention of “To be the best carrier provider of global marine logistics”. Since establishment in 1995, NACKS has adhered to the concept of continuous improvement, promoted lean management, perfected the service system and maintained a steady development trend. It is known as a benchmarking enterprise of China’s shipbuilding industry. In terms of three major shipbuilding indicators of shipbuilding completion rate, number of new ship orders and hand-held orders, NACKS has continuously been ranked among the top ten enterprises in China’s shipbuilding industry. The enterprise keeps the China’s shipbuilding records in many economic and technical indicators such as labor productivity, steel utilization, energy consumption, and man-hour per ship, and has reached the advanced levels of Japan and South Korea for some indicators. NACKS is known as the world’s most competitive shipyard and has become an important strategic partner of the mainstream international shipping companies.

The company has reasonable process layout and supporting production facilities. It has built a 300,000-ton dock and a 500,000-ton dock, respectively equipped with two 300-ton gantry cranes and two 800-ton gantry cranes, with the annual production capacity of 2.2 million deadweight ton. The company has digested and absorbed the advanced shipbuilding technology and management experience of both parties to the joint venture at a high starting point, and formed the product positioning of R&D and construction of “high-tech, high-valued, energy-saving and environmentally friendly ships”, and takes the improvement of the ship’s lifetime value as its own service goal. The main products include Bulk Carriers, PCTC, VLCC , VLOC, dual-fuel ships and other mainstream merchant ships. So far, more than 200 high-quality ships have been built and delivered, among which 300,000DWT VLCC300,000 DWT VLOC, 5,000/6200PCTC, 10,000TEU/13386TEU/20000TEU container ship, 4,000 LNG dual-fuel car carrier and other ship types are the domestically or internationally first ships manufactured.

By promoting independent research and development capability building, the company has cultivated and created a technical research and development team of nearly 400 people. It is one of the few domestic shipyards with full-process design capabilities (initial design → detail design → production design) in China, and has forming a rapid design ability to respond to market needs and promoted the personalization of products and the improvement of customer value. In recent years, NACKS has complied with the national strategic deployment and the informationized and intelligent development requirements of shipbuilding industry, deeply promoted the “integration of informatization and industrialization”, continuously implemented the production automation and intelligent manufacturing, and has multiple automatic and semi-automatic production lines. NACKS was recognized by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology as the first intelligent manufacturing pilot demonstration project enterprise in shipbuilding industry in 2015. In 2017, the company’s intelligent shipyard construction project successfully entered the “2017 List of Pilot Demonstration Projects for Integrated Development of Manufacturing and Internet” by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, and became the only pilot demonstration project enterprise for intelligent factory solutions in shipbuilding industry.

The company has successively obtained many certifications such as “National High-tech Enterprise”, “National Enterprise Technology Center”, “Jiangsu Ship Engineering Technology Research Center” and “AEO Advanced Customs Certification”, and has successively won the honorary titles such as “National Top 100 Largest Foreign-invested Enterprises in China”, “Top 100 in China’s Machinery Industry”, “National Excellent Foreign Exchange Earning and PBT Foreign-Invested Enterprise ”, “National May Day Labor Award”, “National Model Worker’s Home” and “Enterprise with Harmonious Labor Relations”.
