The global shipping industry marks a milestone in its green transformation. On May 8th, OOCL WISDOM, the world's first 24,000 TEU methanol dual-fuel container ship built by the Company for Orient Overseas Container Line Ltd. (OOCL), was officially named at our outfitting base. As the world’s largest methanol dual-fuel container ship to date, the vessel marks another breakthrough for China in the manufacturing of high-end green ships.

At the naming ceremony, Ms. Cao Yanping, Director of Fujian Yaohua Industrial Village Development Co., Ltd., served as the godmother and christened OOCL WISDOM by breaking the ceremonial champagne bottle against the bow.

OOCL WISDOM has a total length of 399.99 meters, a beam of 61.3 meters, a depth of 33.2 meters, a maximum container capacity of 24,168 TEU, a deadweight of 225,000 tons, and a service speed of 22.7 knots. Its dimensions and performance indicators are benchmarks for similar ship types globally. Its core breakthrough lies in the world's largest methanol dual-fuel power system, equipped with the world's largest methanol dual-fuel main engines, auxiliary engines, and boilers, allowing for flexible switching between methanol and traditional fuel modes. When using green methanol, the vessel can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 150,000 tons per year, almost completely eliminate sulfur oxide emissions, and significantly reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. This perfectly aligns with the international shipping industry's rigid demand for low-carbon environmental protection, providing a practical “Chinese solution” for the global shipping industry to achieve zero-carbon goals.

In the field of intelligence, OOCL WISDOM is equipped with a smart “brain”. Its advanced intelligent data platform and energy efficiency management system fully meet the highest level symbol requirements for smart ships and network security from the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS), enabling real-time ship-shore information exchange, automatic optimization of speed and trim, real-time prediction of hull structural fatigue damage, and many other functions. Through intelligent applications such as wireless collection of cold box information and structural safety management throughout the entire lifecycle, an integrated “sensing-analysis-decision” smart navigation system has been established, demonstrating the Company's core strength in the deep integration of digital technology and lean construction.

In response to the characteristics of methanol fuel, the Company's project team has overcome key technologies such as structural safety of fuel tanks and gas diffusion analysis, and established a comprehensive safety defense system. The fixed CO₂ fire extinguishing system in the cargo hold and the high-pressure water cannon system on the deck form a three-dimensional fire protection network. Combined with innovative technologies such as risk assessment and pressurization experiments for the methanol fuel system, it comprehensively ensures the safety of ships during long-distance voyages.

It is reported that OOCL WISDOM is about to commence its sea trial. In the future, this green giant, embodying Chinese ingenuity, will serve as a floating beacon, promoting the zero-carbon transformation of the global shipping industry, and writing a new chapter in the development of China's shipbuilding industry towards higher, newer, and greener goals.
