On August 26, the Company proudly named the sixth 24,188 TEU ultra-large container ship, “OOCL PORTUGAL”, which was constructed for Orient Overseas Container Line Co., Ltd. (“OOCL”). This marks the successful completion of the ambitious project of building twelve 24,188 TEU container ships by the Company and Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “North-South Kawasaki”). The 24,188 TEU container ship is the world's largest ultra-large container ship with the largest size, the highest design speed and the most heavy container loading capacity, with a length of 399.99 meters, a deadweight of 228,000 tons, and a deck area equivalent to 3.5 standard soccer fields. The ship conforms to the development trend of global shipping industry, embodies the latest R&D achievements and intelligent means of Chinese shipbuilding enterprises in the field of container ships, and excels in energy-saving, environmental protection and intelligence level, representing China's supreme accomplishment in the independent innovation and design of next-generation ultra-large container ships. It has been awarded a number of honors such as the National Shipbuilding Industry Innovative Products of the Year 2023, and the Scientific and Technological Innovation Achievement Products of the Central Enterprises. At the Sixth National Conference on the Exchange of Equipment Management and Technological Innovation Achievements held recently, the ship was honored with the Grand Prize for technology by virtue of its advantages in energy-saving, environmental protection and intelligence. Since the grand naming of the first ship “OOCL SPAIN” in the 24,188 TEU container ship series on February 16, 2023, the fleet has captured the spotlight of major media outlets and amassed considerable attention. In the following one and a half years, North-South Kawasaki and OOCL have joined forces to ensure the smooth succession of ship deliveries.
